Is my beta price worth it? Have I actually got a creative writing degree? Am I even real?
Here are some people who said yes!
“english language, u fink ur hard bruv??? yeah my man rennie is harder BACK OFF okay no on a totally serious note though, rennie truly is such a wonderful beta 😭 she’s helped me with so many little tips and tricks that really help my writing flow so much better which i am forever grateful for !! she did everything in her power to help me resist the power of ‘just’ but i fear it is simply too strong not to give in…… anyway rennie best beta go hire her mwah mwah !!” - Darling Humi, who WILL overcome ‘just,’ if she would simply believe… (I say as I lose my battle against ‘simply’)
“If you’re hunting for a beta-reader, I totally recommend my girl, Rennie. I had the pleasure of working with her before and she turned that fic into something twice as delicious as it would’ve been without her touch. She took the time to walk me through every correction and explanation with patience and care. I’m a ficking mess with self-worth and making mistakes freaks me out, but she did a great job with encouragement. Especially as someone who isn’t a native English speaker, that helps a lot. She didn’t just correct me when I accidentally invented new words (which happens more than I’d like to admit) but she also explained why something didn’t quite work and gave clear examples that genuinely help me correct myself if I'm doing something un-betaed. Also expect a thorough work, for real, this woman can't be half-assed if she tried. If that doesn't sell you on getting her as your beta, I don't know what will~” - Daddy Bokfok, who by the way wrote one of my favourite Chanlix fics ever (werewolf Chan x vampire Flx!!!!!!!), read it here <3
“rennie was incredibly lovely and helpful throughout the whole process. she's explained everything very clearly and answered all my questions. she was quite quick both replying to my messages and editing my work, even though i insisted there was no rush at all. i was able to explain to her what my vision was and she worked towards achieving that. she's also provided good examples, suggestions and explanations. she doesn't stop at "change this", "unclear", etc. type of comment. instead, she gives the reason why she's making this or that change, explains the grammar and provides lots and lots of tips that i for sure will use in the future. commissioning rennie isn't just having your work edited but it's also a small lesson on writing, tailored to you. in summary, i'm glad i spent my money on asking rennie to help me improve my yaoi 😌 thank you, rennie!!” - Sweet sweet Sloth, my first real customer aka was not one of my friends who I forced to love and support me (but who now is) <3
“If you are looking for a beta for your first ever fic, I would recommend Rennie, but get in line if you want to nom her after!! With English as a second language, it's definitely a lot of anxiety and nerve-wracking to have someone pointing things out in my fic, but Rennie is really sweet and gentle in guiding me through it. She cares a lot and tries to getting the same clear image of what I wrote so she can edit thoroughly without losing the core of my words. Alongside beta-ing, she also answers my questions, helps me improve my words and writing. I would fight 5 evil puppyM for her... right after I break up with "so" and "somehow" </3” - My darling Alan, I hope the breakups don’t hit you too hard… I can soothe you ;)
Rennie is such a lovely beta! I commissioned the t3 beta work, so these comments are based on that. She provides a great balance of identifying issues or areas of improvement and also areas that are strong or done well. Very much like finding the positives (to keep you going and feeling encouraged!) and just finding areas that need polish.
I specifically found it helpful to get reader centered advice, since I have the story and context in my head I need to be able to communicate that to anyone who decides to read it! I also appreciate the explanations for why things may or may not work in a structure or story flow standpoint. It gives me the opportunity to think critically about my work and (hopefully!) internalize it going forward so I already have these techniques(?) in mind when I go through my draft (and maybe if i end up writing more idk!).
Also! Not only were there editing and cool/nice moment comments and highlights, there's an overall summary at the end that dives deeper into main suggestions or patterns noticed in the work!
I appreciate Rennie doing the hard work and being really thorough (reminder, i did the t3 beta) as I haven't written in years and I've never completed a fanfic before. She was really great at communicating her timeline.
I will definitely be commissioning her once more for the next draft of my current work and I would love to have her beta any future works I may do! I highly recommend her if you are looking and curious! She's been stellar to work with! - Wonderful wonderful Moggy,
